Why ‘Eventually’ Might Not Ever Come

Eventually. It’s a word that we all use on a regular — if not daily — basis. ‘I’ll get it together eventually, I’ll do it eventually, I’ll get to the gym eventually, I’ll go back to school eventually’; y’all get the picture.  Of course, you can’t always get what you want when you want it, but there’s a different between being patient and putting things off.

Although we all know that time waits for no one, most of us still have a bad habit of repeatedly putting things off – or even worse, accepting and expecting less than we deserve because we think that things will change eventually. From work, to goals, to relationships, sometimes it’s hard to just accept the fact that maybe we aren’t doing enough, or maybe we’ve done all we can and now it’s time to start planning the next move. Seriously, how many times have you found yourself in situations where you knew it was time to make a move, but ended up convincing yourself that if you wait a little longer, eventually the move will make itself for you? Yup, me too.

Sometimes we get so comfortable that it’s just easier to keep doing what we’ve been doing, because even if we aren’t getting the results we want – we know what we can expect…EVENTUALLY. Y’all see how crazy that sounds right? Sometimes it’s hard for us to admit — especially to ourselves — that we aren’t living up to our full potential, so instead we make excuses and get defensive when people challenge us to do and be better. Well news flash, folks,  half of these eventuallys y’all waitin’ for ain’t gon never happen.

At the end of the day, all we have is the choices that we make, and it’s time for all of us to be smarter about those choices. We may not have control over every aspect of our lives, but it’s time for us to start owning the control we do have. After all, the only thing any of us are guaranteed in this life is that it will end…eventually.
