There’s Always Time: How To Fit In Fitness When You’re A Busy Mom

To all the moms out there, is it just me or are we all trying to figure out a way to stay peaceful with the hectic lives we have created for ourselves? I am a stay at home mom and I feel overwhelmed trying to keep up with my four kids and their educational, athletic, and social obligations. So let me say from now, my hat goes off to all you moms who also work a 9-5.
In order to deal with the build up of stress and frustration, I thought I would take the route of meditation but it seems as though when I close my eyes I can still hear little children’s voices screaming in my head. Not to mention my 3-year-old who is basically attached to my hip is probably literally screaming in my ear. I have sadly learned from those experiences that meditation is not right for me lol maybe I am not mentally mature for it yet. So I moved on to plan B which is working out to relieve stress. But we all know that alone is another task added to the long list of things we already have to do.
Luckily for me, my schedule although busy is flexible. I especially love sneaking a workout in when I take the kids to the park. It has actually helped me find my peace as I exert pent-up frustration and anxiety. I also keep it very simple. Here’s a quick look at what I do:
Jump rope for 1 min 15 squats (as low as I can go) 10 push ups 10 reverse lunges each leg 15 tricep dips
I do 3 sets of those with a 1-2 minute break between each set followed by a quick bonus round of 10 burpees, 15 jump squats, and 3 40 yard sprints.
To round off my workout I will drink a protein shake. My favorite ingredients are vanilla whey protein, almond milk, frozen berries, frozen chopped kale or spinach and a banana. It’s so filling, it basically becomes a meal replacement.
I have been blessed to have kids who enjoy participating in my workouts too so I’m actually getting in some quality mommy-kid time while de-stressing!
I’m still looking forward to the day when I can get my mind right and enjoy some mediation but for now these quick little workouts seem to be doing the trick.
